Hi Saket

I think that a starting point for this project would be to connect IDAS
to ASCEND. IDAS is a solver that is part of the SUNDIALS suite of
solvers, but it is able to solve dynamic models while at the same time
giving sensitivity data in the simulation results. It is my
understanding that this sensitivity data could be used in place of a
jacobian to drive an optimisation algorithm to solve for input
parameters to the system to provide results that match as closely as
possible proscribed experimental data.

There is quite a lot of work here, although arguably it is mostly about
wiring together different tools, rather than actually writing numerical
algorithms of your own. As a first step, though, connecting IDAS to
ASCEND would, I believe, be a worthy goal.

Cheers
JP
