Hello, My name is Alexandra Mihai, a year 2 student at the University Politehnica of Bucharest. I have looked on the ASCEND ideas page and I am really excited about the projects. I've always been interested in mathematics and programming and I was very happy when I saw that ASCEND was accepted for GSoC this year.
I have good background on mathematics, numerical methods and programming. I participated and won prizes in many competitions and national mathematics contests. I have good background in programming languages such as C, C++, Python and Java. I was browsing the ideas and I'm not sure for the moment on what project I want to work, because there are more than one project that caught my attention. For example, I've always been interested in human interface design, so the GUI improvements project looks very interesting for me. But also, Improving the Conditional Modelling Syntax and Parameter handling for the canvas-based modeller are also very interesting. I don't have experience contributing to open source projects, but I find the idea very interesting and it would be pretty cool if I get the chance to work on one of these projects because it seems a very good and educative starting point. Also, since I don't have experience contributing to open source projects like I mentioned earlier, I would like some suggestions to how can I contribute to ASCEND in this period until I write my application. I was browsing for bugs on the bug tracker, but it's not very clear for me at the moment which would be easier to pick up, so it would be great if you could point out some bugs there or maybe some other tasks I could pick up. Looking forward to hearing from you.
