Greetings !
My name is Sreenatha. I am a computer science student
interested in participating in GSOC 2012 under ASCEND.
I have read the ASCEND overview, gone through the ideas page
and the links referred to therein and found the project titled "GUI
Improvements" really captivating. From what I've understood, the
project is about improving/developing the current implementation of
ASCEND's GUI, which is in PyGTK, by referring to the older Tcl/Tk
implementation. Apparently there is also some amount of bug fixing
that needs to be done to the current implementation of the ASCEND GUI.
A pointer to the list of bugs that need to be fixed in the current GUI
implementation would be really helpful.
I have successfully downloaded and built the latest
version(revision 4042 as of now) of the ASCEND trunk code. I've
written some models of my own for solving a system of linear equations
using ASCEND(a model attached to this mail).
Also, I think that the ASCEND model library is getting cleared
after every load of a model because the function Library::clear() in
the implementation file "ascend/ascxx/library.cpp" is getting called
on every load. I found this out from the data log that was being
printed on to the terminal screen while I was trying to load new
models using the ASCEND PyGTK GUI. I would very much like to hear your
views upon this matter.
I was also wondering if it would be possible for me to do a
project which is a sort of combination of the "Bug Squashing" and "GUI
Improvements" projects. The work could involve a certain amount of GUI
development and fixing of some number of bugs(possibly related to the
GUI design and functionality). I will clearly mention the functional
aspects of the GUI that I plan to implement in PyGTK along with a list
of specific bugs to be fixed in my proposal after discussing them
here.
Please let me know if there is anything else you recommend I study.
