I followed the instructions on the Building ASCEND page. The
pre-requisite packages installed fine.
However, when I entered the command :
svn co svn://ascend4.org/code/trunk <http://ascend4.org/code/trunk>
ascend ,
I get the following output :
svn : Can't connect to host 'ascend4.org <http://ascend4.org>':
Connection time out
The network I'm on uses a Proxy to connect to the internet. Could this
be the source of the problem?
Indeed, this problem arises from our unfortunate choice of the 'svn'
protocol. In particular, we have found that many universities in India,
including the IITs, block access to this kind of content from their
internet connections.
Currently, you have two options: (1) access our (read-only) mirrored
(trunk) code via Bazaar, see
https://code.launchpad.net/~jdpipe/ascend/trunk for details, or (2)
tunnel your SVN connection to our server via an SSH server that does not
have this constraint, assuming you have SSH access from your university,
which would allow write access also, but is harder to set up.
I later tried downloading the i386 ubuntu12.04 .deb file. Installing
this didn't work. My package manager cited this with broken
dependencies, and the package manager fails to work after this. So I
don't think this would be the right way to go.
On the building Ascend page, there wasn't a mention of the 64-bit
equivalent.
I downloaded the ascend-devel-0.98-0.f17-x86_64.rpm file. But I don't
know how to go about the process.
Can someone help me fix the problem.
If you tell me the failed dependencies that are reported then I can help
you to fix this issue. Fixing your package manager is a straightforward
matter once I see what errors are being reported.
I'll try to upload a complete set of Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit packages for
you when I have a little spare time.
Cheers
JP
