Hello everyone,

I am Akash Tandon, a third-year Chemical Engineering (B.Tech) undergraduate
at National Institute of Technology, Surat (NIT, Surat). I am interested in
contributing to ASCEND under the GSOC 2015 program.

I have built ASCEND on my system (Ubuntu 12.04LTS), and am using the PyGTK
interface. Having gone through the appropriate introductory documentation
(Overview, Tutorial, Manual), I am currently working on getting familiar
with the code base as well as the ASCEND syntax itself.

Among the projects listed, the following have piqued my interest:

-> Extending FPROPS: Addition of support for new fluid types, and
implementation of Ideal mixture support.
-> Chemical engineering domain-specific models: Extension and testing of
the current set of models.

In one of the earlier mail-exchanges on the group, John has already
provided some insight regarding the FPROPS projects. I would look into them
soon enough. Some further specifics from Krishnan Chittur regarding the
ideal mixture support would be really helpful.

In relation to the project involving extension of domain-specific models,
some details regarding the type of models being looked upon for
implementation would help. In the meanwhile, I also plan to go through the
'thermodynamics.a4l' to acquaint myself with the existing code.

In addition to having completed multiple coursework relevant to the
aforementioned projects (Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, Unit
Processes, etc.), I am also proficient in C and Python. Perhaps not
entirely relevant to the task at hand but I have extensive experience of
working with Python frameworks(Django), version control (git) and Linux OS
in the past.

On a side-note, I am starting to get pretty excited about the ASCEND
project in general and look forward to guidance from your part.

P.s. I will also like to help with the documentation in the future, if
possible. While trying to build ASCEND, I did run in trouble at a place or
two where some minor details would have been helpful. Also, I edited the
Wikipedia page entry for ASCEND with respect to its status in GSOC; hope
that's not a problem.

Regards,
Akash Tandon
