Hi Ilie,

Perhaps it would be good to look at integration of the Bonmin or Couenne
solvers into ASCEND. These are free and part of the COIN-OR project. I
do not have extensive experience with them, so we would need your input
to assess how easily they could be integrated and what sort of problems
they would best suited to. We have already integrated the IPOPT solver
(also from COIN-OR) and it is quite useful. The CMSlv solver is our own
local implementation of a similar MINLP solver in ASCEND. It's useful
some some types of problems, but doesn't always seem to work robustly.

On a related topic, we still have some issues with completion of the
IPOPT bindings in ASCEND. Specifically, we are missing the ability to
optimise systems that make use of External Relations. This is because
the hessian matrix calculation is not completely wired up through from
the solver to the external relation. You might like to look at this
problem as a useful piece of 'pre-work' to support your proposal.

Happy to discuss further -- thanks for your interest in our project!

Cheers
JP
