Can dblatex or FOP generate HTML with margin notes from this input? If so can you post an example, I'd like to know how its done. That would be the basis of creating your custom asciidoc.conf to generate the correct HTML. Or if the dblatex or FOP works you could then configure the docbook to latex conversion to convert ASCIIDOC output docbook sidebar components to latex margin notes and process as latex.
