What about adding a simple couter function like this: counter //returns 1 the first time . . blablabla . . counter //returns 2 I think this might be helpful in many cases : -> when writing exam subjects : most people won't use lists for the number of the exercice. -> when giving a number to figures like here : http://books.google.fr/books?id=lKEh7jH4nzEC&lpg=PP1&dq=electronic&pg=PA6#v=onepage&q&f=false. Maybe this function is already available in asciidoc, but I haven't read anything about it in the documentation.
