Thanks for the tip. It does work when I use $$C++$$. So, I am able to
work around the issue.

However, I still consider it a bug that ASCIIDOC is triggering mono-
spaced formatting when it encounters a ++ [...] ++ sequence. Unless I
am misunderstanding how the font selection is supposed to work, a
double-plus shouldn't change the font, but should be rendered as '+'
symbols.
