I think the id-attribute should be pure ASCII
From the HTML spec on w3c
ID and NAME tokens must begin with a letter ([A-Za-z]) and may be
followed by any number of letters, digits ([0-9]), hyphens ("-"),
underscores ("_"), colons (":"), and periods (".").
so leading _ is not technically allowed either.

and it worked fine
before this change. This occurs for most non-ASCII characters
(like í, é, etc.).
