Good question, I put the 'safe' option in years ago on the prompting of concerned users, it seemed to make them happy at the the time. I'm no security expert and it's not something that interests me so I tend to look upon it as a code maintenance burden. Perhaps others that have deployed AsciiDoc in this way could help e.g. Github allows AsciiDoc markup.
