Hello and thanks for your replies. My issue was, I had installed MacPorts and asciidoc (over port), but NOT dblatex… Now that I have installed dblatex over MacPorts, both asciidoc AND a2x work just fine.
So my tip; to install asciidoc on Mountain Lion, install first MacPorts and then asciidoc by sudo port install asciidoc If you need a2x as well, install dblatex by sudo port install dblatex Best regards, Vicky On Monday, December 3, 2012 5:40:15 PM UTC+1, Manfred Moser wrote: > > that just means that your file.xml is not valid so you have some sort of > problem in your source.. > > want to show us more of the error message? > > On Mon, December 3, 2012 1:26 am, vicky stamatopoulou wrote: > > Hmmm, I have also installed asciidoc over MacPorts, installation stated > to > > have worked ok, and asciidoc to html conversion works but… > > a2x of simple asciidoc files still does not work: > > > > a2x: ERROR: xmllint --nonet --noout --valid file.xml returned non-zero > > exit status 4 > > > > So I really don't know which installation recommendation I would give… > > Best regards, Vicky > > > > > > On Friday, October 26, 2012 9:44:15 PM UTC+2, Manfred Moser wrote: > >> > >> Install from macports worked like a charm for me so unless you need to > >> be > >> at the latest and greatest that might be easier.. > >> > >> manfred > >> > >> On Thu, October 25, 2012 10:53 pm, John Russell wrote: > >> > I follow the installation instructions on OS X Mountain Lion and have > >> > problems like: > >> > > >> > $ make > >> > Password: > >> > Fixing CONF_DIR in asciidoc.py > >> > Fixing CONF_DIR in a2x.py > >> > python a2x.py -f manpage doc/a2x.1.txt > >> > a2x: ERROR: "xmllint" --nonet --noout --valid > >> > "/Users/cirrus/bin/asciidoc-8.6.8/doc/a2x.1.xml" returned non-zero > >> exit > >> > status 4 > >> > > >> > $ asciidoc asciidoc.txt > >> > <hangs forever> > >> > > >> > I also saved the output of 'make -n' in a script, commented out the > >> > commands to generate the man pages that were both throwing xmllint > >> errors, > >> > and ran the script to install everything else.
