Yes, but you needed to understand how asciidoc maps to the docbook elements.

The bibliodiv element must be in a bibliography element, but you were
missing that element.  The [bibliography] you had made the list, ie
the bibliodiv, you needed a bibliography element which is made by the
[bibliography] section.
