Yes the docbook: <link linkend="xxSection1">Section 1</link> <xref linkend="xxSection1"/></simpara>
looks like a bug, I wonder why nobody has ever noticed before. Possibly knowing they are going to have the xref generated by PDF most PDF users had no caption or everyone uses << >>. Generated pull request #80 with a proposed fix, any chance of you trying it?
