Note that this release of asdf has asdf-binary-locations built in. Thus it does not need to be loaded separately (input 4 below). Instead, load ASDF then (setf asdf:*enable-asdf-binary-locations* t). Noted. (I guess that as far as libcl goes, the configuration instructions should be modified to reflect this.) If you clear the asdf fasl and restart LW, does that work without blowing the stack?
