Loud announcements are almost as bad as the problem.
If you have to shout at the user, then you are probably about to do
something wrong...
I understand the problem people have with the XDG complexity, and the
flaws of the old (but oh so simple) asdf:*central-registry*. The current
proposal strikes me as a hasty solution.
