Ok, I made them 644 and I'm not having any better luck.

I found a file /usr/local/aspseek/var/dlog.log which is apparently the
logfile for searchd. Whenever I run a query with the ul= in it it appends
this line to the file:

Subset http://www.ultraviolet.org/ not found

But at no point do I ever ask for that subset. It is not in ul= and it is
not in the subsets table.

Good point. I'll be changing all of this to run as nobody as soon as I get
the basic stuff working.
