i don't have daemon command under suse linux.
i suppose that daemon will automatically look whether the programme started with it is still alive...
anyone out there you did this for suse linux?

See misc/aspseek file to see how this can be done on RedHat-based
systems. Or, use
su - <user> -c "searchd -D"
where <user> is user you want searchd to run under.
