Some cross-compilation checks can't be done in configure. For example, it
can't guess if you target machine is big endian or little endian. That is
why you can't cross-compile, sorry.

Well, just because we wrote it :-0

Actually aspseek was written because ht://Dig is just not capable enough.
For example, ht://Dig can't search for phrases, can't index and search
10M documents fast, don't do excerpts, its relevance is lower (that
means results produced are much less relevant than those of aspseek).
There are a number of other shortcomings in ht://Dig as well; I believe
users who tried both engines will tell you more.
