Hello.
I am currently researching my 4x great grandfather, Jean Louis Regeas
Laprade. I have accumulated many records to map his life, but there is a
38 year gap that I have been unable to solve yet.

He was born in 1741 at Lanoraie, Quebec, and I have his baptism church
record. The next documents I was able to locate are his church marriage
record and marriage contract, from 1779. He married Catherine Duval, and I
collected baptisms of their children.

The question I am trying to solve is what happened to Jean Louis during the
38 year gap. I have been tracking down various engagement records looking
to find out if he was employed in the fur trade. I also have been looking
through lists of soldiers, to determine if part of that time was in
military service. But have not been able to find anything yet. I have
also been hunting through census records, but as they are not indexed, its
time consuming to sift across them.

Any suggestions where I should be focusing my research efforts to try and
fill that 38 year gap?

Thank you.

Erik LaPrade
