What kind of application you try to make? Telecomunication? I'm developping a Telecomunication application, using CSTA phase II to establish communication with Siemens Hicom 150 H. I compile the ASN1 files with SNACC (from Getronics) and then I use Visual Studio 6 to compile the .cpp/.h files. The documentation supplied for Siemens specifies that whe need to use 7 layers:(http://w4.siemens.de/networks/hipath/images/download/csta_im_ph2_20112001.pdf) RS232 / V24 Layer 7 CSTA II Layer 6 - ASN.1 - Layer 5 Session layer Layer 4 - not used - Layer 3 - not used - Layer 2 Data link layer Layer 1 Physical layer We already implement the layer 7 and 6 using Snacc/Visual Studio 6.
