I think that makes it even more confusing.

Another thought: Isn't a subroutine name just a string? Is there
really no way to force Perl to allow a - in the name, by escaping it
somehow?
 

Well, maybe something like what mod_perl does when creating a filename 
out of a path?

The problem is that this way or that way but you have to change the name 
of the xml tag.

A simple - => _ might be good enought. It didn't work previously, so it 
is an enhancement :-)
