My first attempt is not correct, sorry.
If you include the quotes for the value= "   "  you will not get the
required result.
It is my understanding (please correct me, all you experts out there, if I
am mistaken) that correct HTML coding does include the quotes. Thus the
correct ASP code should read as follows:

<%
Dim strSize
strSize = "5&quot; x 7&quot;"%>
<input type="text" value="<%=strSize %>">
