There have been several posts from people wanting to "clean the pipes" from
a PDC or Beta1 install without reformatting the machine. Here are the
instructions for the Beta1 pipe cleaner. Look for a seperate post from me
titled "PDC Technical Preview Pipecleaner" for instructions for that
release.
The install/uninstall scenario for beta1 appears to be working fine for most
folks. Of course there's some percentage of cases where people are failing
and we're working hard to try and understand those failures. If you find
yourself in a state where you need to get VS .net beta1 off the machine and
the uninstall isn't working:
Run the following, and answer yes when prompted, to remove Visual Studio.NET
Beta 1
msiexec.exe /x {33334F07-0C6B-11D3-A51D-00A0C9231BA1} NOVSUI=1
Then run the following, and answer yes when prompted, to remove the
Bootstrap goo.
msiexec.exe /x {267CD0E5-21C5-411E-980B-1A8DE3043C44} NOVSUI=1
Run Regedit and delete the following registry keys:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{33334F07-0C6B-11D3
-A51D-00A0C9231BA1}
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\14B10BA0-2E68-11d3-
A829-00C04FB1799F
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft
Integration\14B10BA0-2E68-11d3-A829-00C04FB1799F
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\2.0
HKLMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTML Help Collections
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\7.0
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\7.0
Navigate to the Microsoft Visual Studio.Net directory and delete it and all
of its contents.
Visual Studio .NET Beta 1 should now be exorcised.
