1: What browser are you running? The browser caps for .net 1.x are messed
up, often the
validators do not work correctly. I would first get it working in IE and
work from there.
2: Check your aspnet_client folder on the server, follow into the
system.web folder and then
to the framework version you are using for that site. Try replacing the
webuivalidation.js file
with a version from a site you know works.
If your site itself does not have this aspnet_client folder, find these
files and add them in yourself
from a site you know works.
This file can sometimes cause problems. We have found this file to be the
culprit on a number of
public hosts.
3: What is your display set to? Ex, Display="?????". Try dynamic or
static, if it is set to none you
will not get a validator display unless you are using a validation summary.
4: In your submit code on the server side, you should be checking
Page.IsValid
5: You should always have server side valdiation. _javascript_ is meant to
be a way to save a
round trip but does not work well in all browsers and the users can also
disable this.
Beyond that, if you want you can add your own client side validation using
the clientValidationProperty
of the validators. Sometimes, depending upon case, I'll go back to the old
method of rolling my own
_javascript_ and use this as the trigger and then if I need to I'll access
other controls via the DOM method
of getElementById. Have to be careful on this as .net renders IDs of
controls within a container as
different.
Do you have sample code??

Subject: [Spam] [AspNet2] Validation Controls-Need Subroutine?
I inherited a half baked Search app.
It's basically form entry and retrieving data from a database.
The previous developer has built a subRoutine on a button click to
build a grid for the returned data.
I have tried to place some very simple validation controls on the form
and none of them are working.
Do I need to build a separate subroutine for them? I tried a required
field validation and a custom validation script which I found here
http://www.codeproject.com/aspnet/MultipleFieldsValidator.asp#xx1441248
xx
I have never seen this to be necessary with validation controls but I
am a novice.
Thanks
