How do we do the same for a windows application with app.config.

Well. You have 2 options.

1) Use Windows authentication instead of SQL Server authentication.
2) Encrypt the connection string. See

   1)usually We keep the connection string in the
web.config file.but there is no security when we keep
there.so,whats  the other alternative.
