The same is happening with my mailbox also. I was surprised to see no new mail in the inbox. Then I found them all in the bulkmail folder. I think it is so mainly with yahoo users.
However, you can change your mail filter settings. Either you switch off the spam guard or after opening each mail in the bulk folder click the NOT SPAM button so that next time mail from sender is delivered to the inbox.. This should work. I am going to do the same.

Looks like both of you are using Yahoo mail. So, this may be a specific built-in "spam" filter that Yahoo is using that is causing this to happen. Contact Yahoo.
