Kamal Hassan's Ramji Londonwaley, which opens worldwide on September 3, is the first mainstream Hindi film to be made entirely in Britain under the UK government's "Bollywood Initiative", which encourages British investment into Bollywood cinema.
The film is the result of a scheme first introduced in 2004 by MATV, Leicester, in association with CEE (I) TV Entertainment UK Limited and Motion Pictures Partners International, Called "Bollywood Initiative".
Ramji Londonwaley is a delicious comedy directed by the award winning assistant director of Aamir Khan's Lagaan, Sanjay Dayma, and features southern Indian star R. Madhavan in the lead role. Renowned producer-director-actor Kamal Hassan, who starred in the blockbuster Tamil version of the film, has scripted the story.The story of a simpleton from a village in Bihar is shot in locations around central London. The entire pre- and post-production work has also been done in the UK, in a shift from the typical crossover mould of outsourcing work to the studios in India.
