Those who do hair splitting analysis on whether state
terrorism is responsible for insurgency or vice versa
get so bogged down by the debate that they tend to
overlook the disastrous effects of any violence on the
common people. Any type of violence adds darkness to a
sky already devoid of stars. What is the problem with
a non violent mass movement to demand anything from
Delhi ? Is it going to be less powerful ? Certainly
not. Is violence the easy way out ? Probably yes. I
will prefer status quo to even a much better sovereign
Assam if it comes at the cost of thousands of innocent
lives. I will give more importance to those lives than
to the 'guaranteed' collective well being of the
survivors. At the same time, I don't ridicule others
who have a completely opposite view on this matter.
Healthy debate is always welcome on any imporatant
issue pertaining to the state.
