First I wrote so called 'Assamese' , not
'so called Assamese'. Anyhow your question again shows how much you are out of
touch with reality.
In Assam the word 'Assamese' is fast
getting to be a dirty word today. Bodos and many others have already claiming
that they are not Assamese. Oxom Xahityo Xobha and others are fast going back to
the 'writing desks' and trying to change the old definition of the word
'Assamese'. AASU and others are yet to respond to the GOI with a proper
definition of Assamese whom they want GOI to protect.
In context of above, my question
about the PCG group was not personal as your exhausted intelligence is
trying to suspect, but it is a relevant question. Is the PCG made up of
only the Assamese or other than Assamese people in Assam also? The
question is relevant because if in the negotiating table GOI asks the
question to PCG as to whom they represent, and if the PCG says 'Assamese'
then again the question will remain who are these so called 'Assamese'.
ULFA will get Assam, Bodos will get Bodoland, Karbis will get Karbi Along, the
Koch Rajbanshi will get Kochland etc.
Please note it is not important what the
Assamese come up with the definition of the word 'Assamese'. What is
important if the Bodos and all others accept that definition or not. It is like
Indians in Delhi shouting that Assamese are Indians, and ULFA and Chandan
Mahanta are saying "No we are not'. That is to say Indians must come up with a
definition of the word 'Indian' which is acceptable to ULFA and Chandan Mahanta
also. Similarly Assam must come up with a definition of the 'Assamese' which is
acceptable to all the people of Assam. So far Assam is still groping in the
dark. That was my point and PCG should be intelligent and sensitive enough
to understand that. However with ambassadors like Chandan Mahanta, I have my
doubt.

**** What does 'so-called Assamese ' mean? Are we implying that they may
not be Assamese, but are 'so-called'? Or are they perhaps something else in
the guise of 'Assamese'?
>Are any of the groups who
recently claimed that they are not Assamese are represented here?
*** Who are those groups? Are they part of ULFA, but ULFA did not
give them representation by choosing a bunch of 'so-called Assamese'?
What is the thrust of the query here Rajen?

Centre-PCG talks on Oct 25-26 http://www.assamtribune.com/
5 October 2005 From Our Staff Correspondent NEW DELHI, Oct 4
The much-awaited talks between the Government of India and the
peoples consultative group (PCG), formed by the United Liberation Front
of Asom (ULFA) will be held on October 25-26. This decision was arrived
at, at a meeting the National Security Adviser Sri NK Narayanan had with
noted litterateur Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami and member of the PCG, Rebati
Phukan here today.
Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Dr Goswami said that
the Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi is also likely to participate in the
talks. The PCG made the formal request to involve the State Government
and Narayanan accepted the same.
She described todays development as a major breakthrough
and said that it would facilitate further interaction between the PCG
and the Government for restoration of peace in Assam.
Phukan said that for the first time in 26 years, such a move
has been initiated. He said that the PCG wanted participation of the
Assam Government in the process of talks to facilitate the movement of
the members of the PCG throughout the State. He revealed that the PCG
members would travel throughout the state to gather public opinion on
the issue of talks between the Government of India and the ULFA and come
back to the Government with the opinion of the masses.
He hoped that the ULFA would also respect the opinion of the
common people of the State and asserted that there was no ambiguity on
the issue of talks.
Phukan said that there was no pre-condition for the talks
and the primary concern is to restore a healthy atmosphere in Assam. The
main aim of the PCG is to have a cease fire between the Government and
the ULFA to facilitate talks.
Phukan thanked the Government of India for suspending the
operations in the Dibru-Saikhowa national park, but at the same time, he
expressed apprehension that such incidents might occur in Assam again in
future.
Replying to a question he said that he was not aware whether
the ULFA had given any modalities to the PCG on the issue of
talks.
It may be mentioned here that the PCG was formed by the ULFA
to pave the way for talks with the Government of India.

said that they would now arrange a meeting within the PCG members to
discuss the topics that would be discussed in the meeting with the
Centre. Public response would also be scrutinized to decide
on the core topics for the ULFA-Centre discussion, added
Bordoloi. It can be mentioned that the

support ULFAs ideology but it sincerely came forward just to assist in
