Title: RE: [Assam] Fwd: [Waterwatch] Re:"Tehri Dam safe from Eart
Exactly!

That is why it was good to see Prof. Bandyopadhay's challenge :

>I hope that Dr. Nawani will oblige in public interest and put the due list of scientific references in this network.

If this does not come in the next few days, people will obviously have reasons to doubt the validity of the above statement on the safety of the Tehri dam and consider it as a partisan and unsubstantiated position..

#1 We?-who all?
#2 "Have seen"- In English would mean That they were waiting with thousands of Instruments,Data links, dozens of siesmographs, a whole band of Video-Cine Cameramen all pointing their cameras to all of the Dam faces---AT WHICH TIME the R8.5 'Quake acme in -or did 'They' order it in?  We did not hear of a R 8.5 'quake in Tehri,Up,India -Ever.
#3 High Magnitude--in which vector? x,y,z?. High Acceleration  again in which Vector--x,y,z?
#4 Nawani is a great Indian PR man but his statements are devoid of mechanics/Geology.
#5 Who Designed the Tehri Dam? Indian?Who? Why doesn't he get the BHARAT RATNA? Award?

I refer to the quote below from Dr. P C Nawani, Director, Geological Survey of India (GSI):

"We have seen that in high magnitude and high acceleration, Tehri Dam is structurally safe. Certain portions like the slopes can be damaged but they are repairable. This shows that if an earthquake of 8.5 magnitude comes, then Tehri Dam will be the safest place and the people can stand here. Nothing will happen," claimed Nawani.

If what Dr. Nawani is saying is correct, it is a matter of great satisfaction for a large number of people throughout the world.

However, the question is who are these 'we' and what credibility does the world community of scientists adhere to it. I am making a public request to Dr. Nawani to kindly make public the due reference from peer reviewed scientific literature in support of his position.

I am not asking for departmental documents not assessed by the open community of world scientists. It is important for the public to be informed not only by statements by scientists, but also by scientific statements.

I hope that Dr. Nawani will oblige in public interest and put the due list of scientific references in this network.

If this does not come in the next few days, people will obviously have reasons to doubt the validity of the above statement on the safety of the Tehri dam and consider it as a partisan and unsubstantiated position..
