Excellent article on Laloo's loss. Looking at the
still continuing social churning in Bihar, it does
warrant a comparison with the North East. The pulls
and pressures are very similar. The symptoms of these
pulls and pressures differ in the fact that the Yadavs
and the Paswans and now the Kurmis are getting
political primacy. And in the NE the Assamese first
started owning the guns and then the bodos and then
every one else.
I guess we are then still at a very early stage of the
social churning process. Some will win, some will
surely lose ground. Nitish Kumar's rallying cry was
development in Bihar - I am not too sure that was yet
the wellspring of popular support. But hopefully there
would be a unifying leader and an achievable slogan in
all the social churning happening in our region.
