C-da, Mukul-da and other Net members,Thank you for your kind concern and support.I had a good time on the actual Thanksgiving Day with all room mates and landlord giving me special treatment and free party at home. My landlord was the brain behind me blocking my credit abd debit cards and calling the police. I had just walked past his house with groceries from the nerby market and towards my home about 200 yards away when 3 young guys can from the opposite direction and put a pistol on my chest and said "wher is the money, nigger?" I was holding an umbrella up against the first snow of the season. I admit I have stayed in very vile places in India (born in Muzafferpur, Bihar - our Wild East, studied in Sonipat where daily knifing/shootings and also at Rakabganj, Meer ZameerGanj, Delhi's butcher colony for a few months - but wasn't prepared to hear some say in Englsih wearing good clothes ans speaking well- to rob me in USA. Indian sterotype of robber is like Veerapan , rustic, uneducated, with long mustcahe and dirty clothes. That was what I am trying to get used to. I stay about 15 miles from White House in DC - in PG County - having higher murder rate than even DC - about 150 per year - but there has never been any such instance in the distrcit - Colleg Park - where I stay - this must be the first time.It is a decent neighborhood. Maybe they had toy, plastci guns (no metal shine) and they needed money for Thanksgiving purchase. It disturbed me that they were as casual about it - onc they had the wallet etc - as if some older bullies had snatched the luch box from a smaller school boy. Such densistization can resemble only the kind among Bihari robbers who rob and kill without compunctio.Thank you for the concern.UmeshIn a way I am glad it happened before and not afterthanksgiving - since I now realized (not in abstract either) that even without a proper job or money - I have something which someone can take away from me - and that I came out unscathed (with only $15 in cash lost and a $25 train pass plus rupees two/five cents they took from my VISA credirt card - perhaps checking at a gas station if the card ws working or not)My roomate seems to secretly hoe that he had been in my place so that he could have thrashed them all - I hope he learns a lesson that it is useless to argue with a gun on your chest and another on your backbone with noone in sight in the cold night with snow falling around. It is a very quiet neighrbood (greenbelt metro stop, PG County, Maryland) with hares and deers roaming around -it seems this attracts wild animals like thses guys too.

I presume you are somewhere in Washington DC.It is an awful way to celebrate Thanksgiving. Please be careful and take care of yourself.c-daAt 3:40 AM +0000 11/24/05, umesh sharma wrote:Dear All,Happy Thanksgiving!!My phone and wallet was robbed at 7:30 pm in the residential area I am staying by three guys with pistols at College Park, so I have lost all contact info of you guys - mostly in my cell phone directory and yor business cards. I have to apply for a new card for Work Permit , Debit card etc - all were in. I am thankful to be alive. I am glad that I did not get robbed after 9pm - since when I tried to confirm my blocking of Debit card from Bank Of America - they were closed by then. I had thankfully already blocked my cards (one from India) long before.Happy Thanksgiving once again!!UmeshPS: Even if you are low on finances or job front - still one can be worse off - I am thankful to be alive
