Agartala, Nov 27: Jamiat Ulema that assumes a bargaining position in Assam politics is now trying to consolidate its strength in other northeastern states.
The seventh Tripura state conference of the Ulema has urged all the Musalmans to unite to assert themselves and raised 10 point demands including the hate campaign against Madrasa education should be stopped and introduction of Arabic language up to college and university level.
Though established 7 year ago this is for the first time the Jamiat Ulema organised their state conference in a big way at Stable ground in Agartala. Representatives from different parts of the state came in large number to participate in the conference. All India president of the organisation Maulana Sayad Ahasad Madani was suppose to attend the conference as chief guest but had to cancel it in the last moment due to ill health.
Addressing the daylong conference the Muslim leaders stressed the need for strict observance of Sariat dictates to maintaining peace and discipline in the society. They also expressed concern over growing trend among a section to acts that are not permissible in Sariat like free mixing of boys and girls etc and urged the society to be vigilant about these.
The conference also accepted a 10-point charter of demand that includes proper maintenance of Waklf properties and reservation for Muslims in government services. Mufti Taibur Rahaman, president of the Tripura state unit of the Jamiat Ulama said that their main objective is to improve the condition of the Muslims and strengthening the national unity.
