Dear Chan,
Thank you very much for the words of appreciation that you wrote about
Snehalaya. I too read Ram's write up. He has written really well.
Ashadeep is doing well.
Our services are very challenging and most rewarding.
I am just back from a two-day trip to Bongaigaon and Goalpara. . I had been
to visit the mother of one of the children in Snehalaya. She is in ---------
District Jail, punished for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. When
she became a widow her brother-i-law was after her. In a fit of anger/ for
self-defence/unintentionally she tried to scare him away by hitting him with
a dao. She was sentenced to six years in the jail. She has completed two
and won 6 months remission for good behaviour in the jail. I am taking care
of her 12 year son. He was with me along with his two uncles etc. when we
visited the prison. It was a very moving experience. The High Court has been
petitioned for revision of her sentence. There was no one to follow up the
case. I plan to do so and get her released soon. The boy, -------- ---- is
studying in Class V, Assamese Medium, in St. ------'s Boarding School,
------- ----. Snehalaya takes care of him.
That is the kind of rewarding works Snehalaya does.
Yours gratefully,
Fr. Lukose
