Looks like this is good news.
Initially, the college will offer a five-year degree course in architecture. Later, courses on interior and landscape designing, construction technology and project management will also be offered - Telegraph
C'da, you may be the best person to answer this: What are the prospects for a career in architecture in India/Assam? One of my friends went to the Sir JJ School of Architecture (I think thats what it was), did pretty well too, but had a tough time finding a job in that field.
Maybe things are different now.

Gogoi to inaugurate architecture college |

Jan. 20: The city will no longer have a dearth of world-class architects. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi will inaugurate the Guwahati College of Architecture on Republic Day. The college, which is the first of its kind in the Northeast, is part of Dispur's ambitious project to transform the city into the country's educational hub. This is being done with the aid of the private sector. The Council of Architects, the sole statutory body under the Union ministry of human resource development in the field of architecture and Gauhati University have given their affiliation to the college. Abani Das, an eminent architect and the man behind the setting up of the college, said it is extremely sad that even after almost 60 years of Independence, the region did not have a single college offering a course in architecture. "All these years, students from this region had to go to cities like Mumbai and Delhi to pursue a degree in architecture, which is a very costly affair. I had to struggle a lot when I took admission into the J.J. College of Architecture in Mumbai in the Seventies. I had to take up a part-time job to pay my fees," he said. Das said graduates from the college would be immediately recruited by leading architecture firms in India and abroad. Students can also carve out a lucrative career for themselves by capitalising on the current real estate boom in the country, he added. Initially, the college will offer a five-year degree course in architecture. Later, courses on interior and landscape designing, construction technology and project management will also be offered. The college, which will start functioning from its temporary campus on RG Baruah Road, plans to have its permanent building near the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati |
