In the past, we used to have a
decency at least that in such a situation, the political leader, in this case,
the CM or DC I think, would opt to resign because they failed to manage the
situation correctly.
Now a days I think that basic
decency is also gone.
Looks like it is business as
usual.
Angry public,
corrupt politicians, inefficient and corrupt govt officers, dumb military
personal, insane and undemocratic govt!!!

Guwahati: Assam plunged into a major crisis following last nights uprising
in Tinsukia district even as curfew continued in four towns, the PCG
threatened to call off the peace process and Army top brass rushed in from Kolkata. The Army this morning flag
marched twice as thousands of people tried to assemble, even as curfew
continued to be clamped in four towns of Tinsukia district. Eastern
Command GOC Lt Gen. Arvind Sharma has also rushed to the spot.
Superintendent of Police Debojit Hazarika confirmed that nine people had
been killed in yesterdays mayhem, including a CRPF man stoned to death by a
mob, which lasted nearly six hours till past midnight. The unprecedented
uprising took place following four days of tension in the area after the
killing of one Ajit Mahanta, who was branded an ULFA cadre by the Army.
Another youth was killed at Makum yesterday afternoon which led to
violence there. Meanwhile, the ULFA nominated Peoples Consultative
Group(PCG) has threatened to call off the peace process and the All Assam
Students Union has called for a 12-hour state-wide bandh on Tuesday against
the alleged Army atrocities in Upper Assam which led to the popular uprising.
Meanwhile, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, addressing a political rally at
Tezpur today, informed that she had asked Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee to
punish the culprit at the earliest while Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced
court martial of erring security personnel, beside compensation to the
victims family. As the villagers started regrouping today, the state
administration was trying to take control of the situation and sent fresh
forces from other districts. Official sources confirmed that police
stations, railway stations, post offices, government quarters and passing
vehicles were torched as 20,000 people laid seige at Kakopathar, Makum,
Doomdoma, Chabua and Penegri in the district and simply overpowered everything
that came their way yesterday. Deputy Commissioner Gautam Ganguly had
expressed helplessness as the entire area of 50 square kilometre turned into a
war zone with firing between the security forces and the ULFA and civilians
lasting for most part of last night. UNI
