Imphal, March 10: The medical examination report of Maibam Naobi Devi, who has accused Manipur police commandos of torturing her in their custody, has found evidence of "use of force" and "signs of struggle".The director of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences today submitted the report of the 22-year-old woman to the Manipur Human Rights Commission. The rights panel had ordered the medical examination after Naobi alleged that she was "sadistically molested" by the commandos. It was carried out a day after she was released by the court of the chief judicial magistrate on March 2. Though the report has not yet been made public, a source said it has mentioned several contusions on Naobis shoulders and thighs. The forensic department of the institute has collected her vaginal swab for further examination. Manipur police commandos picked up Naobi from the house of a PLA member in Thoubal district on February 21 where she had come to attend his funeral. The PLA insurgent died in an encounter with police commandos the previous day. The commission has fixed the next date for hearing on April 3. Deadline: The residents of Ninghoukhong, meanwhile, have given chief minister Ibobi Singh a weeks time to identify and punish the security personnel who allegedly molested a housewife on Wednesday. |
