FYI info IITs and IIMs were already having 22.5% reservation in their seats. Now they have only sought to increase it to 50% -by also including OBCs (Other Backward castes) -as per mandal Commission.
Tow of my college batch (and hostel) mates from Kirorimal College , Delhi got into IIMs thru the quote for SC/STs - Santosh Kumar joined IIM-Lucknow. He was a brilliant , student from middle class family from elite Doon School -where he had also won the prestigious Duke of Edinburg award by Britsh Royals and was captain of 5 sports teams. Other was Gopal Kumar, a sincere student but a bit lazy who repeated the first year at college. He joined IIM-Kolkata --he was from a Hindi medium school though.
I think they deserved it.

PS: We were in the first year when Mandal Commission agitation took place and hudreds died by suicide etc -and as part of hostel ragging (regardless of caste) all were made to oppose it by joining rallies etc. The Kranti Chowk from right in front of the hostel - the eye of the storm
