'Brokeback Mountain' not good prison fare
NORFOLK, Mass: Massachusetts corrections officials say whoever was responsible for a prison screening of "Brokeback Mountain" will be punished.
Inmates at the state prison in Norfolk, Mass., watched more than three-quarters of Ang Lee's film about gay cowboys last week before a prison official turned the movie feed off, the Boston Herald reported.
The Department of Corrections has rules against the showing of sexually explicit movies at its facilities.
"It's absolutely unbelievable the system could let this happen," Ken Ferullo, vice president of the Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union, told the newspaper. "They did this just to make the prisoners happy."
Officials said the unidentified employee who approved the screening would be disciplined.
The breach of the rules was compounded by the gay theme of the film, Ferullo noted.
"We don't need to foster that kind of atmosphere in there," Ferullo said. "It already exists. These guys are alone together, some of them forever. We're already running 'Brokeback prison.'"see the last line.Umesh
