That was extempore (usually most of my postings are). As far as becoming a politician, I don't think I have the stomach nor the usual turpitude that goes along with that profession.

The point though is that one sees many countries that really don't do well in the tough endurance sports because of the huge amounts involved in training.
 
I think it was the wrestling team that India sent to the Olympics. A couple of them were thrown out after drug tests. One other point, usually Indians do not usually posses the physical characteristics/strength  as most other countries do.
 
But I do agree, the Indian contigent at the Olympics is normally made up of a few atheletes, a bunch of 'officials', their wives, throw in a minister or two (and their wives) - that is the team.

The only countries that one hears about endurance sports are usually from a few countries.
USA, Russia, East European countries, England, China, Japan, Canada, etc.
 
I don't hear of Scotland, the Netherlands, Norway, most of Africa, most of Latin America (except Brazil/Argentina - football).
 
Such sports require, excellent training from a very young age, excellent facilities, and great trainers. India does not have a good sprorts infrastructure. Games like cricket and football guarantee immediate ticket sales (in volume), plus great coverage returns.
 
Other sports like figure skating/gymnastics etc, won't bring enough returns to sustain them - unless there is a champion in the midst.
 
Even in tennis, India does have the potential, but the best training facilities in the world are in the US - all countries send the best to the tennis ranches in the US (mostly in Texas) to train, and so it is with gymnastics (in Houston).
 
Lastly (but not the least), politicians often get to choose who is represented in foreign trips for players, trainers, and they more often than not choose third rung potentials.

One of the report must be wrong. We must establish the facts.
If the above report is correct, one can see from records that an Indian is  not too much of a climber which is however not a news.
Cricket, Chess etc as you know donot need much physical strength or stamina.
I donot know about Kabbadi. I don't think it is even known in places like Assam, Bengal, Bihar  etc.
We are talking about games and sports like Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, Long Jump, High jump, 100 meter run, Marathon run, Swiming, Biking, Mountain climbing etc.
We Indians must have an asnwer why we Indians are not good sportsmen.
We no longer can give the excuse that Indians are poor.
