GUWAHATI, July 22: While various student and youth organizations of the State, including the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), have been constantly insisting on the demand for 100 per cent employment for local candidates in all Central Government departments and PSUs having offices in Asom and the North-east, an instance of local candidates being deprived has come to light in the recruitment to the posts of technical assistance/scientific assistance at the Guwahati centre of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), a nodal agency under the Department of IT, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
According to sources, about 250 educated youths appeared in the written examination conducted by the NIC for the above posts in January, and of them only nine candidates received call letters for viva-voice test and eight of them finally appeared in the interview held at Kolkata in March.
However, according to the candidates, they have not got the final results of the test yet, but it is learnt that the NIC has already dispatched offer letters to the candidates of other States. Not a single candidate from Asom has got appointment despite the fact that three of the candidates are M. Sc in Computer Science and four other are MCA with good ranking, they said.
Sourav Gupta, Technical Director and State Informatics Officer, when contacted by The Sentinel, said that the Guwahati Centre got the list of six successful candidates in the first phase and two of them have already joined. However, he said, the interview was an all India affair and commenced under the direct purview of the NIC headquarters at New Delhi. The Guwahati centre has no say in the matter, he clarified.
Meanwhile, the AASU has taken up the matter seriously, and is expected to move the NIC very soon, said Samujjal Bhattacharjee, AASU advisor, when contacted by The Sentinel today. There would be no compromise with the interest of local youths and outsiders in NIC jobs in Asom would not be accepted, he added.
