Today I am going in a few miniutes to Santa Monica beach, Hollywood to attend ISKCON's RathYatra - www.festivalofchariots.com but I am currently staying with 6 Indian guys in an unfurnished (no furniture) apartment in North Hollywood -with things lying around and grimy bathrooms where the latch does not close -with newcomers surprising and getting surprising while on their visit to the toilet.
From the balcony window one can see the hill -whose other side is supposed to have the famous "Hollywood " logo -it also looks in the littered backyard of the many houses around- my Gujarati ex-roommate from Washington DC who is my host for this weekend -pointed out a house behind us that they shoot pron movies there-another inmate said that he was pulling my leg but they make them somewhere around in the locality though far away..
Yesterday I helped shift furniture into two spacious apartments in a much better
neighborhood -paying $1500 for two rooms (One bedroom studio apartment) -since their wives and children are due to come from India in August. Tonight I would be sleepin their new , cleaner apartment from whose windows and balcony- I can see entire Universal Studio Hollywood -park comlpex 100 feet above and a mile away -whom I visited this friday .
One of the guys (friedn of my Gujarati friend) works at Universal Studios and took us to see the new hot movie Miami Vice -by Universal STudios - we saw it inside the studio complex at a theatre where movies were shot till sometime back - and now screens shows only for its employees and their guests . Just opposite that theatre was a stage ("set") named after Alfred Hitchcock and we used the toilet in an office complex marked for Wolf films -all this area I could not have visited on Friday -on my paid ticket. I did see the long bus like vehicle taking the paid
visitors of the Park to the other film sets -like the amazing scene in War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise, Steven Speilberg movie movie) where the real plane is
