Moles use Dhaka 'Connection' to leak information
Times of India, New Delhi 31.07.06
Silchar: To check "moles" active on the south Assam side of the international border with bangladesh, the authorities here have asked Dhaka to remove cell-phone towers from areas adjacent to the boundary. Sources in the BSNL office said the towers were helping anti-national elements on the Indian side to use Bangladeshi SIM cards and pass on vital information to their caders across the border.
In the trouble-torn Katigora area of Cachar sector, the BSF has complained that "spies" were using Bangladeshi sim cards to send reports of troop movement to BDR.
"India has asked Bangladesh to remove the towers from along the international border. The issue is on the discussion table," BSNL divisional engineer B B Kar had confirmed recently.
Signals of a number of cellphone service providers in Bngladesh can be easily accessed in Karimganj and Cachar. Sources said mobile-savvy militants, jehadi elements and smugglers use sim cards and service provided by AKTEL, BGDGP, Bangla Link, BGD04 and BD--Bangladesh-based mobile service providers - to keep in touch with their associates in the neighbouring country.
