New Delhi, Aug 24 (ANI): The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Thursday approved a scheme, which will adopt critical flood control and anti-erosion projects in Brahmaputra and Barak valley.
The scheme amounts a total of 225 crore rupees, and will be taken up by the concerned State Governments for Rs.205 crore and by Brahmaputra Board for Rs. 20 crore during the X Plan period.
The scheme is aimed at protecting the life and properties of the people and installations from flood and erosion caused by rivers Brahmputra and the Barak in the North-Eastern States including Sikkim and West Bengal, an official release here said. The Brahmaputra and the Barak Basins States: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Sikkim, North Bengal, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Manipur face the fury of Brahmaputra, Barak rivers and their tributaries every year.
