Thanks for posting.
What I am surprised is to see complete lack of perspective of things by the media in Assam. This drought in Assam is reported to be one of the worst in more than a century. Whenever we call Assam, we find that there is immense suffering of the general population in all over Assam. Unbearable heat is one thing in a state which is plagued by constant power shortage etc.  According to the report, the price of rice is going up affecting the general population even further. About 12 lakhs farmers are affected. People are just taking it as another calamity amongst many others. There has been good coverage in media outside Assam.

Against this background, there seems to be hardly any news serious news coverage of the sufferings of the people by the news media in Assam which is still reporting news like who is saying what very casually.  (May be I am missing).

When will our news media learn to do a little bit of investigative journalism on its own. Has there been even a single article by any media in Assam as to why this drought is occurring. Is it due to failure of the second monsoon in Assam or what? What was the nature of such drought in the past? What the experts say in this regards? Will it happen again next year etc etc.

Why the people of Assam and the news media are so apathatic about its own problem?

I am sorry if I am over reacting, but hopefully I am not. I simply do not see any news at all by any news papers in Assam. Is it because the drought is happening in Assam and not in Bihar for Assam to worry?

Drought threat to Assam rhinos

One-horn rhinoceroses in the Kaziranga National Park, in Assam, northeast India, are threatened by a food shortage caused by a severe dry spell. Utpal Bora, the warden, said: “The impact of the near-drought will be felt in the winter, when most of the grazing animals in Kaziranga are surely going to face a food crisis.” The park is home to 1,855 one-horn rhinos. There are only 2,700 worldwide. Rangers fear that the rhinos may stray and be exposed to poachers. (AFP)
