Iran is a civilized nation-could even have  been its cradle- even George Dubya Bush agrees.

Side by side with the photos(may even have  been authentic) one should have had a few from Abu Ghraib.

I understand that Ram.

When I saw the attachment, I too was disgusted. But I had a funny feeling it was
a hoax, only because such an egregiously barbaric act would have been reported in the media.

Obviously a segment of our friends were only too keen to believe it and pass it on. The names on the addresses of the recipients of the multiple rounds of  forwarding of the piece tells a rather sordid tale.

>Yes, you are right someone needs to apologize to the Muslim community, but who?

*** I don't know. I guess those who have taken on the responsibility of forwarding them on have some responsibility. I realize Rini is NOT the original sinner. But she does have a responsibility, just like you or I would, to exercise judgement in deciding if such inflammatory material ought to be spread around WITHOUT verifying their veracity.

>Most of the public are often taken in by whatever is seen on the web.

*** That, I am sure you know, is hardly a justification, particularly for those of us who value our credibility, our sense of fairness, and our ability to reason.

>These photos are in the same class as the propoganda that goes around in the >Middle East that the Jews kill Arab children and drink their blood (One >Egyptian newspaper even printed it). Wonder if anyone apologized to Israel or >the Jews for that?

*** Same explanation again Ram. In Oxomiya there is a scatological proverb that deals with the issue. It goes: Moi g** khaale toi-w khaabi neki? In other words, 'two wrongs do not make a right'.  And according to the Mahanta School of
Bumper-sticker Philosophy( MSBSP) :-), those who know better( or fancy themselves to know better) have a HIGHER responsibility.

Would you agree?

C'da,

The photos are a hoax -
This is what I wrote to RK

I am sure you were not aware, but these same photos were doing a run about a year back. They are basically web hoaxes and are aimed to build up more hatred and anger against Muslims . Hope our netters don't fall for this stuff.

Somehow it got rejected by Assamnet (file size too big). I am sure RK did not know these were hoaxes (and the photos do look convincing) and was responsible enough to write back to Assamnet.

Yes, you are right someone needs to apologize to the Muslim community, but who? I would think the people responsible for creating this stuff ought to. Most of the public are often taken in by whatever is seen on the web.

These photos are in the same class as the propoganda that goes around in the Middle East that the Jews kill Arab children and drink their blood (One Egyptian newspaper even printed it). Wonder if anyone apologized to Israel or the Jews for that?

Hi Rini:

I just saw this.

Does it mean that the attachment was a hoax?

And if it was, does anybody deserve an apology?

Best.

Hello Ram,

The photos look so convincing that I thought it was real. Any way thanks for alerting me. I will keep that in mind.
