The whole of the Executive Summary is an eye-opener -esp the indicators at the back --it seems ONLY Indians think USA is a good place to live in --from among 16 countries polled --is it becos we are enamored with Hollywood -- just see the names "Bollywood" (in Bombay-Mumbai) or "Tollywood" (in Tolleygunj , Kolkata) or Mollywood (Madras) --though unlike Hollywood which has streets, districts, schools named after Hollywood --none of these Indian places has anything connected with their respective names.

And also at teh same time making it easier for international students in these fields in US to get visas, job hunting time and expedited permanent residency and citizenship status etc. It is on page 6 & 7 of http://darwin.nap.edu/books/0309100399/htmlUmesh

In Scotland school systems have adopted this approach and go for ISO 9000 and other certifications or try for it.Further --from the article on MSN there are some online books and articles of interest : -to analyze how to make a nation economically competitive
thru education.

is the successor of A Nation at Risk, 1983 (

The AEA 2004 (Electronic Association) report halfway
down the article is most interesting -as is the
offhand remarl quoted quote by Peter Drucker . He
places the IIT at Bangalore and mistakenly says that
the strikes and lockout ridden AIIMS, Delhi si world's
top medical school.
However, it is interesting to note that this report
asks for issuance of Green Cards to foreign masters
and PhD grads from US univs -in tech fields --which
has been passed by US Senate Immigration Bill this
summer.
It interestingly notes that US college students do not
choose tech programs in large numbers because they
find them too tough! Ofcourse, you can't go around
party hopping and boozing to celebrate the youth on
Friday nights and weekends then: I am only talking
about average college grads --not the super brilliant
ones. The report also gives figures of foreign grads
in science and tech from US univs.
Interestingly it mentions Indian penchent for ISO-9000
certifications --which even high schools and petrol
pumps show off as labels of quality.
Also, the report mistakenly mentions that 58% of the
software firms certified by Carnegie Mellon Univ were
Indian --- perhaps they meant -those Indians who have
emigrated to US!!!
Hysteria helps build by adrenaline levels and a
mentality for fight or flight --so ability to come up
with radical solutions to stave off competition --no
wonder Americans have led the world for ages!! Thats
real pschology warfare and competitive spirit which
regularly makes USA the number ONE in competitiveness.
Any comments?
Umesh
PS: Some might be anguised by my remarks downgrading
the Indian challenge. The map in the report showing
jobs shifting to India is itself misleading --since it
is just the opposite of what is written in black and
white alongside -talk of hysetria!!
