Guwahati, Dec 11: Pro-ULFA slogans rent the air near the state assembly on its
first day of the Winter Session today as constables, whose selections were
struck down by the High Court recently, staged a demonstration.
The agitators demanded that their appointments be upheld.
The High Court had last week ruled that selections and subsequent appointments
of constables in some of the districts as well as recruitment centres were not
in conformity with rules, while it upheld the selections in few other
districts.
The agitators shouted slogans in support of the ULFA and its top leaders Paresh
Barua and Arabinda Rajkhowa. Pro-ULFA banners were also displayed, which were
promptly torn by police.
