*** You are right Rajen. It should not take any extraordinary sensitivity to respect Ram and Alpana's privacy, their mourning and their struggles with healing.

Netters do respect that. And no-one has found it necessary, heretofore, to embroil the Sarngapanis' tragedy, to make political points. I wished it had remained so.

I understand your position. But is 'Justice' the ultimate thing? Can 'justice' heal? Can justice bring back the dead?. I think, it is the wstern world, who talks too much about justice. Eye for eye. Indian world, Indian culture look at things differently. Sometimes it is better not to say things at all. Unspoken words mean a lot. Let us not say anything further on this subject in honour of Nitin. Let the family heal in their own way with time. Let us not disturb their healing process.

Ram-da,

I realize your feelings and the pain you feel. But to get justice there has to be a concerted effort so I asked. One cannot sit and wait for things to happen. Community members have to support.

I hope he (Grewal) is punished soon.

Thank you C'da for really understanding our feelings.

We understand Umesh means well, but Umesh, both of us still feel deeply hurt, whenever Nitin's name crops up, it brings back lots of memories. In essence, it is a sensitive subject for us. And we certainly, do not expect the same level of sensitivity from everyone around. We hope you understand our feelings.

Over the past year or so, we have tried to show a brave front, participated in Assamnet discussions etc, visited friends, but that should in no way be construed to mean that, at least for us, Nitin's case can be treated like some other case (far removed from us), and Nitin is 'past history' for both of us and we can discuss him in a detatched way. I don't think we will ever reach that sense of detatchment and nor do we want to. Nitin is a part of us.

I did not follow this thread carefully, but fail to see the connection. And since you wanted to know, Hardeep S. Grewal of Houston has been indicted for Nitin's murder by a Harris County Grand Jury, and is awaiting trial. That is basically as much as we know about the case.

Also, whether, Grewal is convicted or not, sent to prison or not, we, as parents, have already lost.

Ram & Alpana

You ought to have exercised some discretion in bringing Nitin's case into this discussion.

But then again, why am I surprised!

Natwar Singh did NOT kill anyone -- Sharma - Yadam team did -- two people murdered.

I wonder how the case of Nitin Sarangpani's death in Houston, Texas allegedly by an Indian Sikh immigrant whose daughter was his friend and he was at her house to drop her off at night -after attending his birthday party. Did his being a Marine Reserve help in police investigation? Did the girl's father land in jail? <http://www.assam.org/newsletter/september2005.pdf>http://www.assam.org/newsletter/september2005.pdf

None of these deserve being fed a lifetime in Jail.

Idiotic Brit Penal Code-also copied by US--where big fish like" Kanwar" Natwar Singh are branded Success Stories and small fry locked up for life -at what cost!

This Sharma grandson of former Indian President -Shankar Dayal Sharma (I know his nephew) seems to be trigger happy as do his friends. Member of Parliament DP Yadav's son who goes to jail with Sharma --is one of the two brothers allegedly involved in the murder of Nitish Katara who was dating their sister and had the guts to dance with her at her birthday party(as per news reprots).

Here is Yadav's main role <http://www.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=78473>http://www.expressindia.com/fullstory.php?newsid=78473
